read-to-succeedFor the month of February, Blythe Park has been participating in “One School, One Book” program and reading In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Count up all your reading hours and participate in the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program to receive one free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park this summer.  Have not been participating in “One School, One Book” but still reading, count up those hours and participate too!

Every Blythe Park student who completes six hours of reading and submits a signed reading log by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29th will receive one free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park this summer.

STUDENTS: Read for fun for a total of 6 hours, track your time, have your parent/guardian sign the reading log form, and return it to your teacher or have your parent/guardian email it to the School Coordinator, Debby Galloway at dastrama@gmail.com by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29th.

PARENTS: Print the reading log form listed below and help track your child’s reading, sign the form, and send it back to school or email to the School Coordinator, Debby Galloway at dastrama@gmail.com .

Tickets are expected to be arrive around May 10th.

pool-partyBlythe Park PTA will be having a pool party on this Saturday, March 5th at the Oak Brook Aquatic Center. From 6:00-8:00pm, we will have the entire Oak Brook Aquatic center to splash around in with Blythe Park families and friends.  Admission will be $5.00 per person for anyone in a swim suit.  A snack will be provided and an adult must accompany all children attending.

One School One Book Family Celebration this Thursday

onebookCome celebrate the end of the One School One Book program this Thursday from 6:45-8:00pm.   There will be crafts, games and activities that relate to the book and Chinese or American culture.  Sweet treats will be served that pertain to the book.  The celebration will take place in the gymnasium.

After School GIRLS Yoga is in full swing! Grab your friends and learn some great ways to relax the mind and body. Class will run from 3:00-3:45pm at a cost of $10.00

Complete the Raging Waves Fitness program and earn a free full day admission pass

raging-waves-21Illinois largest waterpark, Raging Waves Waterpark, located in Yorkville is offering a fitness program for kids.

Children are invited to Plunge into Fitness this spring as Raging Waves Waterpark joins the battle against childhood obesity. The fitness initiative runs now through April 11th, and each child completing the program requirements during this time period will receive a free Raging Waves full day admission pass.

The Plunge into fitness program requires a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise each day, which totals 25 hours for the seven week period. Any activity that increases heart rate qualifies including: walking, running, biking, playing team sports, skateboarding, swimming, jumping rope and hopscotch. The fitness log that needs to be completed is attached. Once complete, a parent will sign it and the child will turn it into the school office by April 11th.

sciencefunTo get everyone thinking about Science,  Blythe Park PTA will be holding five “Science and a Sandwich Sessions” during lunch.  On each of the Wednesdays listed below,  Mrs. Gaynor and Mrs. Ford will be conducting a different science experiment with the kids.   The kids will efficiently eat their lunch as the science experiment is explained.  After eating, the science experiment will be conducted.  The goal of the “Science and a Sandwich Sessions”  is to get everyone thinking about science and encourage them to participate in this year’s Science Fair being held in  late April.   Each of the lunch science experiment sessions has a capacity of 16 students. The program is open to 1st -5th graders and kindergarteners accompanied with a parent.   Please sign-up by clicking on the button below.

This week is Wellness Wednesday!  Ms. Tywanna (AriAnkha) Patrick will be our guest and we will feature Kemetic Yoga.

Kemetic Yoga is an Ancient form of yoga based on the culture of Ancient Egypt, then known as Kemet.  Kemetic yoga exercise gives you physical benefits like stronger muscles, better posture and improved flexibility. The practice of Kemetic yoga also increases energy.

Tywanna (AriAnkha) Patrick- Certified in 2008 as a Kemetic Yoga Instructor was trained & studied under Master Yirser RaHotep creator of the Yogaskills Method. TyWanna/Ari began teaching yoga/meditation in the fall of 2008 at Curves fitness center located at 5444 W. North ave. until it closed in 2011. Ari has participated in numerous wellness events for churches, schools, community organizations as well as private groups to increase awareness of the many benefits that come when practicing yoga/meditation. Ari currently teaches  regular weekly classes at the Afrikan Village Chicago Cultural Center in the Austin community as well as West Humboldt Park Community Development Council bringing free quality fitness classes to that underserved area. Ari is a registered yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance.
